Literature Text

a half century past
she'd have been bettie page
but she thinks she's fat
cause his fingers can't grip
the gaps in her ribcage

I'd paint you on the side
of a fighter plane
and rise above the birthing shape
of the earth
till the all the oxygen's flowered away
like anyone listens
to the radio transmissions anymore
(as we say

war is always plural
all the skin
and all the soil)
probably needs some tinkering. i had an old Sparta song in my head. and i still like bettie page

and the title fits but it's also a neat nerdy reference to an old UFO story about a pilot who died from lack of oxygen chasing a UFO over kentucky that was dismissed as the planet venus

Ok, you got me. I know need to buy your book and catch up on all the poems I've been missing on here and relearn how to post, because I have been missing out :( This is great work, Joe. Not just because you're my friend, this is just so much better than most of the shit poetry I have been reading. It killed something inside me, maybe a bit of my love for poetry, but just reading 3 of your poems has brought the spark back in me, so thanks. I say I hate you because it's a rare thing to be able to write like this. No one else can do it, because of your experiences brought to it. Do me a favor, and stop fucking up. You deserve the best in life, and writing like this proves it (as well as who you are). Love the backstory on this one, like to hear that one.
